SUMMARY:Sigrid Nunez's "The Friend"
DESCRIPTION:Sigrid Nunez\, long admired as a writer’s writer\, has had a long and respected writing career\, but now at age 67\, she’s become what the New York Times calls “a breakout literary star” after winning the National Book Award for her novel The Friend. In this one-session meeting\, we’ll do a deep dive into the book\, which explores themes of love and loss\, offers a critique of the literary scene\, and movingly portrays the bond between humans and pets. We’ll consider how Nunez’s style fits within the contemporary literary scene\, and why after all this time\, this respected hardworking writer who avoids social media has finally earned her time in the spotlight.
